Many students struggle while independently reading high level books. Students may not know how to sort through the many details of a book in order to focus on the main idea, character development, themes and vocabulary. An active reading program focuses on direct instruction on how to read, annotate and analyze a novel while building vocabulary. Specific organizational strategies will be taught in order for students to learn how to interact with books and how to remember what they read.
Students will learn how to:
- Organize their reading time
- Develop a pre-reading routine
- Interpret meaning and Analyze
- Identify themes
- Identify important quotes
- Build Vocabulary
