Remediation and Instruction

 

Remediation differs from typical tutoring, as a tutor provides support as a subject matter expert, and an Educational Therapist provides support by addressing cognitive processing strengths and weaknesses and by teaching specific strategies to target an individual’s academic and personal needs. Remediation differs from student to student, and sessions are tailored to help students meet their goals, find success in school and life and improve self-esteem and confidence. Students are generally in remediation for two to three years; however, some students, depending on the degree of their challenges and demands of their schools, stay in remediation for longer periods of time. Remediation sessions are generally 50 minutes in length and occur two to three times per week during the school year. Summer break offers an opportunity to do more intensive works, so often times students participate in longer, more frequent sessions during the summer months.

Instruction is just typical tutoring. Even if your child does not have a learning disability, Trish is willing to teach academic skills and general organizational and study skills to your student. This may include how to become a more active reader, a more skilled writer, or how to accomplish task completion, or how to organize one’s time and materials to achieve one’s goals. Trish frequently works with university students who just need some additional support adjusting to the demands of living out of a structured family home for the first time and keeping up with their work schedules, sleep and balancing extracurricular endeavors.
