Making Math Real
Making Math Real s a multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning mathematics. Children are guided through systematic lessons using the four stages of concept formation: concrete, semi-concrete, semi-abstract and abstract. By use of manipulative and stories, children learn to truly understand the meaning of mathematical operations and how to use visual imagery and self-talk as learning strategies for math.
MMR is appropriate for lower and upper elementary students who are experiencing difficulty memorizing math facts, understanding place value and/or the four basic mathematical operations. MMR is a comprehensive program, but it is not necessary for each student to complete each level; lessons can be tailored to meet individual needs.
